Ethical hacking & unethical poachers
Friday Feb 10, 2017
Friday Feb 10, 2017
In a week where President Trump’s travel ban continues to hit the headlines, Steve Griffiths and Dan Hawkes managed to slip through the net and enter the studio to present another TechTalk Show.
We were thrilled to introduce our first guest, who had actually come over from the States. Ralph Echemendia is known as ‘The Ethical Hacker’ – he has worked with Hollywood Director Oliver Stone on two of his movies – Savages and Snowden – helping him with the authenticity of scripts and providing technical supervision. Ralph also gave us the lowdown on Seguro, a new venture that is due for release soon, find out more!
After last week’s lamented Mushroom light/charger, Unboxing was a resounding success with universal agreement.
Tech Savvy was a blast from the past, we had a great chat with Thomas Bell from Konnect Apps at Get Social last year – check out what he had to say.
Our last guest is on a mission that we should all support. Helen Pheasey is leading a PhD research project into the illegal trade of turtle eggs in South America. The aim is to plant decoy sea turtle eggs into nests vulnerable for poaching. These will be 3D printed eggs that contain a GPS Tracking Device, SIM card and a battery pack. Make sure you get involved with her Crowdfunding page here.

We love a drone at the TechTalk Show and thankfully we had a chance to catch up with Anna Babarczi at the IoT Tech Expo who told us all about Dronex.
These aren’t just boys’ toys – they are serious bits of kit. As software, electronics and design experts, they have been creating UAVs with business integration, sensor incorporation and advanced security to make what we would call super drones!
Find out more about Dronex by visiting their website and checking out their podcast.

IoT Tech Expo Special
Friday Feb 03, 2017
Friday Feb 03, 2017
Exhibition season has begun! Steve Griffiths and Dan Hawkes have been left to fend for themselves in the TechTalk studio as they present the best of the IoT Tech Expo from last week.
We came across some fantastic companies at London’s Olympia and discussed everything from apps to radiators to robots – the holy tech trinity, probably.
Don’t worry yourselves, we still had some Unboxing, even if this week’s product was deemed fit for the bin only.
Producer James and Assistant Harry were also tasked with some homework and they were thrust in front of the mic to reveal the fruits of their labour.
All that packed into one hour, impressive…

Protection for a lone wolf
Friday Jan 27, 2017
Friday Jan 27, 2017
President Trump has taken to his seat in the Oval Office for the first time while Steve Griffiths and Dan Hawkes took to their rather worn-in studio seats; it’s unclear who will cause more trouble at this stage.
We wouldn’t ever trust Steve or Dan to be left alone in the office alone, but for those business owners who can trust their staff, we spoke to Andy Natt who has developed an app to provide personal protection for lone workers. It’s definitely worth looking into.
This week’s Unboxing segment had a twist – Dan even left the studio for a while, but not because he was upset by what we had to offer… Find out what was going on by watching the live video back on our Twitter page.
Moving on, and we had a fantastic Tech Savvy interview with Penny Power. She’s received an OBE from the Queen and is building The Business Café – a great place for small business owners to meet.
Finally, we welcomed Tudor Price on to the show. Tudor works for the Kent Invicta Chamber, an organistaion that helps tech start-ups in Kent. He has some great advice for our listeners too.
Join us next week to hear a special show based on our trip to the IoT Tech Expo.

Stepping up your shares game
Friday Jan 20, 2017
Friday Jan 20, 2017
We had so many guests in the studio this week that there nearly wasn’t enough room for Steve Griffiths and Dan Hawkes to present TechTalk. Luckily their post-Christmas diets have kicked in sufficiently enough to squeeze them in.
On the topic of January weight-loss, it was handy that we were able to welcome Paul Nuki on to the show as our first guest. Paul’s company StepJockey have developed an app to help combat sedentary behaviour in the office. Make sure you’re walking around while listening to this podcast.
We needed two cracks of the whip when it came to the Unboxing product. Dan’s fear of the instruction booklet caused an issue again, but the final results weren’t great for the mystery product regardless.
Tech Savvy went live this week! Our usually pre-recorded segment came to life as we invited Katie Arnold from AfriKids along. The charity is doing fantastic work for children in Ghana and Katie explains how they are introducing kids to tech.
To bring TechTalk to a close this week we had Shane Leonard from Stockflare. With Brexit and Trump, the markets are quite volatile at the moment – Shane explains how his company can help guide you through the minefield.

Safe storage and the small screen
Friday Jan 13, 2017
Friday Jan 13, 2017
Wind, snow, rain and Tube strikes – this week has been a tad grim, cheers January. Thankfully Steve Griffiths and Dan Hawkes have some fantastic Tech Talk to warm your cockles.
We start by welcoming Kevin Jefcoate into the studio. He is the Marketing Director of iStorage and they have quite the reputation – they won ‘Security Innovation of the Year’ in 2013 for their PIN authenticated and hardware encrypted data storage devices, namely USBs. If you need documents protected, Kevin is your man.
As always we had a great time Unboxing. This week’s product certainly caught the eye – make sure you head over to our Twitter page and find the live video that went out. Everyone bar the tough-to-impress Dan said ‘it rocked.'
You may remember we took Unboxing on the road a couple of months ago at the Get Social Event in Kent… We had Susannah Schofield as one of our panellists that day. Susannah kindly took some time that day to let us know about her company Dice Matrix.
Lincoln Mardell was next to introduce himself to Steve and Dan. Lincoln is the Creative Director of Linked Media, a production company that are fusing the high quality television formats with the benefits and capabilities of smart devices. Ever wondered if you’ll be watching TV in 30 years? Lincoln has the answers!

Stride towards the future of better Marketing
Friday Jan 06, 2017
Friday Jan 06, 2017
They’ve managed to shake off their Christmas and New Year’s hangovers (just about), so Steve Griffiths and Dan Hawkes take to the mic for their first TechTalk of 2017.
Techie eyes are focused on Las Vegas for CES at the moment but ears twitched our way as we welcomed our first guest, Lisa Pape from Walk With Path. They are developing insoles to curtail the risk for people who suffer from medically-related falls – they are a force for good, so make sure you take a listen to their story.
The first Unboxing product of the year is provided by Assistant Producer James – his choice proves fairly popular in the studio. Check back on our Twitter to watch the action.
Sticking with the theme of Unboxing, we hosted an event at Get Social Kent back in November and one of our panellists was Luke Quilter – he’s CEO of Sleeping Giant Media and gave us a great talk about the best ways to go about marketing.
Finally, we caught up with Marc Duke who has his own consultancy service. He calls himself a ‘CMO (chief marketing officer) in a box’ as he visits various companies and offers his expertise. It’s an interesting concept and a great listen too…

TechTalk 2016: 'best bits'
Tuesday Jan 03, 2017
Tuesday Jan 03, 2017
2016 may have been a bad year for some, but TechTalk have had a blast...
We launched our weekly show in August and since then we’ve met some fantastic guests and particularly enjoyed attending AppsWorld back in October.
To bring the curtain down on our first year, Steve Griffiths and Dan Hawkes present their best bits so far.
In this hour special you’ll hear from a games developer and Business guru first. Then there was a time where we had a drone flying around the office in our Unboxing segment. Stay tuned for the company that are revolutionizing events and finally listen to the big scoop that we had from within Sony on the day that PlayStation VR launched in September.
Thanks for listening last year – and cheers to a brilliant 2017.

Techs and the City
Friday Dec 23, 2016
Friday Dec 23, 2016
Tis the season to be jolly, and tis the day to listen to some quality TechTalk. Steve Griffiths and Dan Hawkes aren’t clocking off early and have prioritised a great show over some tedious wrapping.
We start off in conversation with Lorne Mitchell of Objective Designers. He has an interesting background as a bee-keeper, but his company are creating a buzz for their clients – they help them set their objectives and achieve them through different designs, mostly in the telecoms industry.
Next up, we had an Unboxing segment which certainly had Dan foxed and everybody else unimpressed. Visit back on our Twitter page to see a live video of the action.
Moving on from that disaster, we learned how to avoid another much bigger disaster. It’s a time of year that poses a fire risk, so luckily we heard from Kent Fire & Rescue on how to stay safe at home and in the office.
Last but not least… are you someone that has booked a city break for the New Year? If you have, you’ll need to listen to our next guest – Nick Whitfield from City Unscripted. His company are offering you the chance to visit the world’s best cities like a local, with a genuine local host – all based through their website. Make sure you listen-in, it’s a great idea.

Creating with the world of online dating
Monday Dec 19, 2016
Monday Dec 19, 2016
Dan and Steve kick off this week’s show with some pre-Christmas discussion. Dan is really impressed with the first ever drone delivery from Amazon – we do love a drone story!
Up first we have Peter Chalkley who has been an avid user of dating websites and apps and saw a gap in the market to introduce his own platform. He explains the importance of portraying a true reflection of character, embedding video interviews into profiles and encrypting face recognition software to verify users worldwide.
We all know when it’s time for Unboxing! Dan’s vocal outburst of excitement is very unique. What’s in the box this week? Could this be four weeks in a row for “it rocks”? If you ski or snowboard this is definitely a great accessory for you adventure sport adrenaline junkies.
Tech Savvy this week is of the highest order, Sue Nelson met with Anthony Walsh from the international law firm Eversheds. Anthony is an expert in how to set up your company, article association and shareholding – to name just a few key elements to setting up your business.
We were very humbled to be joined by Stuart Logan the CEO and Founder of Twine. A platform for creative writers, animators and designers to showcase their amazing work. Stuart gives us the low down of one of the many working parts of the company, allowing creatives to post up project briefs. Frank? Who is Frank? A Chelsea pensioner who was the centre piece of a VR project by Twine listen in to hear this amazing story.
One week to go till Christmas make sure you listen to our final Live show of 2016 at the same time next week. Boy, do we have a treat for our listeners over the festive period – Don’t miss our Best of 2016 special….
